Swim Meets

Meets almost always take place on Sundays due to availability of the German Pools. Saturday meets have been scheduled when available.  Plan for the meets to take 4 to 5 hours at least, depending on team size and number of teams participating.

Away Meets
Parents are responsible for transportation. If funds allow, the team may provide a bus for extended long distance meets. Swimmers, coaches, and meet officials have priority seating on the bus.

Swimmers should take some food and drink: not all hosting teams have concessions stands. Food containing a lot of fat and sugars should be avoided. Water and/or Gatorade are good fluid replacements.

Not all pools at away meets provide lockers for valuables, therefore, there is always a risk involved with taking portable CD-players or other expensive items to a swim meet.

In cases of meets where "Hosting" is involved. It is customary to bring a small gift for the hosting family. Parents or guardians who accompany their swimmer and stay in a hotel have to pay for themselves. The hosting team usually provides suggestions on where to stay. "Hosting" is an EFSL requirement provided to children to attend away meets. When requested, the hosting team provides accommodations for the swimmers when long distance travel is required. Parents pay for their own accommodations.

Home Meets
It is surprising the number of adults that are needed to put on an organized swim meet for the swimmers. There are several positions that parents will be asked to fill in conducting our home meets, and parents may be asked to pitch in and support other teams in putting on their meets as well. Home meets can not be held without the support of all the parents.

"Hosting" the swimmers of a team that comes to Bamberg the day before the meet is the team's obligation according to the EFSL Rules and Regulations.
